Frank McAvennie insisted it would be “massive” if Celtic could sign Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson on loan in January.

The former Hoops and St Mirren striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed that the 23-year-old “is a superstar in the making” and would be a “magnificent” signing.

Henderson has just three appearances to his name this season and none in the Premier League with David de Gea Manchester United’s undisputed number one.

Neil Lennon signed Greece international Vasilis Barkas in the summer but he has struggled to fill the void left by Fraser Forster this season and has been replaced by Scott Bain in recent games.

When asked by Football Insider if he would welcome the addition of Henderson, McAvennie said:

“I don’t know if that is just paper talk but if they could get him it would be massive, massive.

“He is a proper player. If he came in, wow.

“He is going to be a superstar. He is a superstar in the making.

“Manchester United are a bit tight with money at the moment but they have have upped his contract to 100,000 or something. They see him as the replacement for David De Gea.

“If they could get him in at Celtic it would just be magnificent.”
