Newly-promoted Burnley have been urged against a move for legendary Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy this summer due to his age and potential game-time demands, after the Clarets were linked with interest in his signature last week.

Burnley won promotion back to the Premier League last month as a stellar campaign led by Scott Parker eventually saw them finish with 100 points, to become the greatest team in English football to finish second in the table, and only 16 league goals conceded all season, which worked out as the best defensive record in English league history.

They are bound to be busy in the transfer window this summer as they rigorously prepare for life back in the top-flight, and outgoing Leicester icon Vardy is thought to be on their radar, according to TEAMtalk, with the Clarets claimed to be of the belief he can contribute to their top-flight efforts next season due to his vast experience at 38-years-old.

Vardy has evolved into a Leicester legend since he joined for just £1 million from non-league side Fleetwood Town in 2012. He was a key part of their shock Premier League title win in 2016 and their 2021 FA Cup success, with numerous individual awards to boot along the way.

He is one of the most iconic strikers of the modern Premier League era, and he surprisingly announced his Foxes exit last month with an emotional message to their supporters.

While he will leave the King Power Stadium this summer, where he plays next is currently anyone's guess. Burnley have been linked, alongside numerous other clubs, with fellow promoted side Leeds United also claimed to be interested in a move.

Scott Parker's side will have numerous incomings on their agenda over the next few months, and FLW's Burnley fan pundit Will Lancaster believes Vardy could make an impact at the club, but he does not think that they should make a move for him ahead of next term, due to his age and the fact that he would not fit their usual buying model, as well as his potential playing demands that the Clarets would likely not be able to fulfill.

“It’s a weird one with Jamie Vardy," Will told FLW.

"Obviously he has all of those years of Premier League experience, and looking back at our successes in the Premier League, it was with the more experienced players in the Sean Dyche era.

“Ashley Barnes, Chris Wood, Jay Rodriguez, Sam Vokes…so, you’d be inclined to take Vardy on, but I don’t know if he’d really start for us.

“He’s obviously a great finisher, I think he’s still got eight league goals this season, which is still a really good tally, but he will be 39 at the end of next season, and you really do need to start forward planning.

“We’ve had great success from that in the last few years, selling players like Sander Berge, Wilson Odobert, Dara O’Shea, Aro Muric, and it seems this time around, if we don’t sell the likes of Maxime Esteve and James Trafford now, then they are going to follow on that conveyor belt, and I don’t know if Vardy really fits into that model that Alan Pace and ALK Capital are looking for.

“The caveat to that is, obviously Ashley Barnes looks like he might not be offered a new contract, or one-year maximum, and Vardy, I think, would suit us as that, sort of, older, bit-part player compared to Barnes.

“But then at the same time, is Vardy really going to accept that when he could have just stayed at Leicester, or he could go to Sheffield Wednesday, who he supports?

“I think my overriding feeling is that we do need to look elsewhere, but it certainly would be intriguing if he did manage to find his way to Turf Moor.”

Vardy will have numerous offers this summer - he may want to move away from the UK

A player of Vardy's quality being available on a free transfer is certainly not something to be sniffed at, as despite his elder status in the game nowadays, he has still bagged eight times in the Premier League this season and has clearly not lost his touch in front of goal.

Numerous rumours have emerged about who his next club could end up being this summer, and TEAMtalk's sources have suggested that a deal taking him to his new team is more advanced than people may think, while he has had plenty of interest for several months and aims to continue playing at the highest level, preferably in the Premier League.

Football Insider's newest report of Wolves being in pole position to sign him would make sense, then, given how Vitor Pereira has guided them away from the drop to top-flight safety this season, but the 38-year-old might not even look to stay in English football, if new claims around his personal life are to be believed.

The Daily Express have revealed that he and his wife, Rebekah, are planning to move to the USA following her high-profile legal dispute with Coleen Rooney, which has resulted in Vardy paying Rooney just under £1.2million in legal costs after the trial was recently settled.

As a result of their plans, The Sun have claimed that MLS sides San Diego FC and D.C. United are interested in his signature, and so the iconic Leicester frontman may well end up stateside instead of in Burnley this summer, which would make sense as he winds down and his career edges closer to an end.
