Coventry City have confirmed the arrival of Burnley centre-back Luke McNally on a loan deal.
The 23-year-old, who was bought for a seven-figure fee from Oxford United in the summer, has been unable to secure game time with the Clarets this season.
Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday were also credited with an interest in the young defender, however, it is the Midlands club who have emerged victorious in this particular race.
Sharing his thoughts on McNally and answering whether or not he believes it is a strong addition at the Coventry Building Society Arena, Carlton Palmer told Football League World: “Yeah, it’s a terrific signing.
“I think Vincent Kompany made it very clear that he wanted the player to remain in the Championship. So that effectively ruled out Sheffield Wednesday. Hull are at the wrong end of the table, although they have been doing well under Liam Rosenior.”
“I was actually at the Coventry vs Burnley game (two weeks ago) and I think Vincent would have liked the style of football that the Sky Blues play under Mark Robins, which is similar to the way Burnley play.

“So, I think he probably felt that was a better move for him.”
The verdict
McNally has the potential to thrive at the CBS Arena, and as Palmer points out, their style of play may have played a pivotal role in the Sky Blues securing his services.
Emerging as one of the finest players that League One had to offer last time out, he has an excellent opportunity to step up and play regularly in the Championship.
Of course, Burnley will be eager for the young defender to go out and play regularly and you would think that he will be presented with plenty of opportunities before this season comes to an end.
