Darren Bent urged Tottenham to sign AS Roma attacker Edin Dzeko as he would be the perfect foil to Harry Kane.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Spurs striker claimed that Dzeko would accept playing second-fiddle to Harry Kane if he joined Jose Mourinho’s side.

It was recently reported that Mourinho had sent Spurs scouts to watch the 33-year-old in action as he had identified the former Premier League striker as someone who could be the ideal cover for Kane.

Bent shared that Dzeko would be a good signing for Tottenham as his goal stats when at Manchester City were up there with the best, so he is a proven quantity in the Premier League.

When asked if Dzeko would be a smart signing for Spurs, Bent told Football Insider: “I think he’d be a good signing.

“He’d be a very good signing, he was great at Man City as his goals to game ratio was crazy and up there with the very best.

“So you’d have to say for Spurs, he’d be the perfect foil for Harry Kane as they would allow Kane to get some rest.

“He knows the Premier League, he has scored goals in the Premier League for Manchester City and he’ll understand that Harry Kane is the best striker in the world and that he’ll have to play second fiddle.

“He played second fiddle at Man City, behind Aguero, Negredo, they kind of alternate.

“So I think him going to Spurs, would be perfect, as it’d be the perfect move for him.”

Dzeko has scored eight goals in 19 outings for AS Roma this season and signed a contract extension with the Italian club in August.

When playing for Man City, the Bosnian forward scored 50 goals in 130 Premier League appearances.
