West Brom have placed former Nottingham Forest striker Lewis Grabban on their transfer radar, as per a report from The Athletic.

The Baggies are also considering Manchester City starlet Liam Delap as a striking option, with Daryl Dike set to miss the next couple of months after sustaining a thigh injury.

The current free agent netted 12 times in 31 appearances for the Reds last time out in the Championship, scoring at a rate of a goal every 163 minutes.

Proving to be a consistent scorer of goals at Championship level, Grabban has netted 112 goals in 283 second-tier appearances.

Three of our writers here at FLW have shared their thoughts regarding West Brom’s interest in the vastly experienced Championship forward…

Grabban ticks a lot of boxes for what West Brom need in a striker at the moment, with the most important box of all being a natural finisher.

The 34-year-old is someone who has proven to be very clinical in the second-tier, and whilst he is now 34, he has shown no signs of losing this aspect of his game.

Grabban is also an extremely intelligent striker who knows when to drop in and link the play, whilst he possesses the knowledge to know when to operate on the shoulder and look to break the defensive line.

A player who can hold the ball up and introduce others into the play, should Grabban arrive, he could thrive next to the creativity that the likes of John Swift and Jed Wallace bring.

Grabban would be a top addition, especially if Liam Delap arrives at The Hawthorns too.

This would be an excellent addition for the Baggies considering his consistent goal record over the years.

Comparing this to the potential Liam Delap deal, the veteran would probably be happier sitting on the bench than the Manchester City youngster will be when Daryl Dike returns, so it may be a better decision if they were to pursue Grabban instead.

He certainly won’t have a shortage of service with the likes of Karlan Grant, Jed Wallace and John Swift around him, so there’s no reason why he can’t score at least 10 goals this season if he arrives at The Hawthorns.

That may not be enough on its own to get the Baggies back to the top tier – but with Grant, Dike, Wallace, Swift, Diangana and others also able to get themselves on the scoresheet – he would certainly guide Albion in the right direction.

Also having promotion-winning experience under his belt, he knows what it takes to get to the big time and this is another reason why this would be an excellent addition.

They shouldn’t be expecting him to start every game though.

This could be a good pick up for West Brom.

On the surface of it, their striking department appears well-stocked with the likes of Karlan Grant and Daryl Dike on the books, but when you factor in the latter’s recent struggles with injury, perhaps depth is needed.

Particularly when you consider that Kenneth Zohore’s future at The Hawthorns appeared uncertain coming into the summer.

As such, Grabban could come in and provide depth and competition, and we know that if and when he does play,, he is still more than capable at this level after his loan spell at Nottingham Forest last season.

With the club also linked with Liam Delap, Steve Bruce is clearly targeting reinforcements up front and I don’t think Grabban would necessarily be a bad player to bring in.
