West Brom will now be finally able to start ramping up their transfer business now that they have secured Valerien Ismael as their new permanent manager.

According to the latest report from Goal, West Brom are now interested in making a potential move for Liverpool attacker Harry Wilson.

It is believed that the Baggies are facing competition from Premier League clubs and abroad if they are to secure his services.

The same report adds that Liverpool are not looking to send him out on another loan deal next season, following his short-term spell with Cardiff City last season.

Liverpool are believed to be valuing him at around £12 million and West Brom would be needing to meet that kind of fee if they are to be able to secure his signature.

With West Brom now interested in Wilson, we asked our FLW writers whether they feel it would be the right signing for the Baggies…

West Brom would be making an excellent signing here if they managed to pull it off.

Wilson has shown that he’s a class above in the Championship, having impressed with both Derby County and Cardiff City.

The Welshman scored seven goals and was on hand to provide 12 assists in the 2020/21 season, as the Bluebirds narrowly missed out on a top-six finish in the second tier of English football.

West Brom might be priced out of a deal for Wilson though, and you would imagine that a move to Benfica would tempt him more than the Baggies this summer.

But if West Brom were to complete a deal to sign Wilson ahead of Benfica, then it would be somewhat of a coup for Valerien Ismael’s side.

He’d be the ideal Matheus Pereira replacement for West Brom if they lost their start man this summer.

This man is an exciting little player. Although he has also had bright loan spells at Bournemouth and Cardiff City, the best season of his career so far was at Derby County and he looked like an unstoppable force at Pride Park.

With his first-team opportunities limited, he would be better off getting away from Liverpool permanently and it’s something Jurgen Klopp is reportedly open to. Whether they will be able to afford him may depend on Sam Johnstone and Matheus Pereira’s potential departures – but he may even be available for a cut-price deal this summer with the Reds looking to cut ties.

If they can get him on a reasonably cheap deal, Wilson will have the opportunity to finally settle down and could thrive at the Hawthorns because of this. Uncertainty over where his futures lies in recent years must have taken a real toll on the 24-year-old, so it would be interesting to see how he performs if he gets this fresh start.

For West Brom, they no longer have the option of using Kamil Grosicki and Kyle Edwards and although they weren’t key players for Sam Allardyce before his departure, they still need depth in the wing area and Wilson would be a talented individual to fill the void and potentially fire the club back to the Premier League. His eye for a goal could lead them there.

Harry Wilson’s quality is there for all to see and I think it would be a stunning signing for West Brom to make this summer.

He is deadly from set-pieces and score all types of goals – which is a luxury that not many midfielders bring to the pitch.

He won’t come cheap and I think a loan move may be more suitable if this deal is going to be pursed by the Baggies.

The Championship is his stage and he has lit it up for a good few years now, so he may feel a Premier League move is the next step for him.

West Brom would be the next best thing for him and it would offer a genuine chance for the Welshman to get a promotion on his CV.
