Tottenham Hotspur could make a move for Burnley star Maxwel Cornet this summer.

As per the Mirror, Spurs boss Antonio Conte sees the versatile Ivorian as an option when looking to strengthen his side when the transfer window arrives.

Cornet joined Burnley during the January transfer window for a fee believed to be around £10 million pounds.

Following the Clarets’ relegation to the Championship though, which was confirmed after their defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday, it is reported that Cornet has a £15 million pounds release clause.

With that being said, we asked some of our writers here at FLW for their thoughts on whether Cornet would be good signing for Spurs and Conte this summer.

Yes, Tottenham have a huge cash injection coming in that will be available for Antonie Conte, but it is important that he makes it count.

Maxwel Cornet, should they be able to agree a sensible fee would be a strong pick-up for the highly-ambitious North London club, with their £150 million transfer budget set to take them to a level where they can challenge Man City and Liverpool.

A shining light in a team that underperformed last season, Cornet’s pace, trickery and final product saw him emerge as a talent in England’s top flight.

Definitely possessing the required abilities to cut it at the top end of the Premier League, Cornet could thrive at Tottenham, plus he is still just 25.

A winger, who has been deployed in several positions throughout the season, Cornet has shone no matter the challenge with the Clarets, a big positive for Spurs.

This would come as a big blow to Burnley as Cornet has been one of the side’s most entertaining players this season.

The former Lyon player would be a great addition to the Spurs squad, with Antonio Conte likely to deploy him as a wing-back.

It was reported that Cornet has a relegation release clause of £17.5 million in his contract, but he could even be available for less given the financial concerns at the club.

That would make him an extremely cost-effective signing and he could really thrive under the Italian coach, who has a record of bringing the best out of these eccentric attacking players when used as wing-backs.

Maxwel Cornet has had a good season this year scoring nine goals and assisting once in 26 Premier League appearances.

At 25-years-old it feels as though a move down to the Championship with Burnley would slow down his career and progress in his game so a move back to the Premier League is needed for him.

Tottenham could definitely make use of the versatility that Cornet possesses as well as Conte and the staff being able to develop his talent in a specific role.

He holds the ball well and creates chances and with a player like Harry Kane there to get on the end of them, it seems like a move that could go well for both parties.

The only worry you have is over the amount of game time the 25-year-old gets at Spurs because he doesn’t want to make a move to sit on the bench for a lot of the season.
