Darren Bent says that Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa is “worth every penny” of the £3million-a-year contract he is being paid by the club after Andrea Radrizzani’s revelations about the club’s spending.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Spurs and England hitman says that the Argentine manager is someone that every club in the Championship would love to have in the dugout given the choice and that Leeds are lucky to have him.

Radrizzani told The Times that he was spending “over £30million” on player wages at Elland Road, going on to confirm Bielsa confirmed to be earning 10 per cent of that figure to make it £33million.

Bent says that it is a hefty figure to be spending for a manager but that his quality, experience and proven ability makes it a worthwhile investment for the Italian owner.

Bent told Football Insider: “He’s the difference, isn’t he? Anyone else in that division would love to have him, absolutely love to have him. That makes sense.

“It’s a lot of money, to be fair, that he’s on but I think he’s worth every penny of it.”

Radrizzani took charge of Leeds back in 2017, initially joining as an investor under Massimo Cellino, but was only able to guide the club to a 13th-placed finish during his first season at Elland Road.

Having brought in and subsequently sacked both Thomas Christensen and Paul Heckingbottom, the Whites’ owner managed to bring Bielsa to Yorkshire, the Argentine taking Leeds to the play-off semi-finals last season and agreeing to stay another season over the summer.
