Worst dive ever? Javier Hernandez during FC Toronto 2-2 LA Galaxy | OneFootball

FC Toronto 2-2 LA Galaxy was a bona fide MLS thriller.

The two teams came face-to-face at BMO Field in the early hours of Thursday morning UK time and there was action aplenty throughout the 90 minutes of play.

It was LA Galaxy who took the lead in the first half through former Juventus and Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa.

Toronto then made a spirited comeback in the second half, goals from Jesus Jimenez and Federico Bernardeschi seeing the Canadian side move 2-1 ahead on 81 minutes.

But it was LA Galaxy who had the final say in the match through Barcelona academy product Riqui Puig.

The Spanish midfielder scored an absolute stunner to level the scores at 2-2 and rescue a point for his new team.

Not bad, Riqui, not bad at all.

The events that unfolded in Toronto really were thrilling for the most part, aside from a horrendous piece of play-acting by Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez.

At one point in the match, the Mexican striker was surrounded by three members of the opposition outfit inside the box, who were clearly telling him to get on with the game.

The Toronto players – which included club captain Michael Bradley – were a tad physical with their counterpart, but it was nowhere near enough to send Hernandez tumbling to the floor as if he’d been hit by a bus.

Sadly, that’s exactly what he did…

We’ve seen some awful play-acting in our time – and that’s right up there with the very worst.

There’s just no need for it, Javier.

Hernandez has enjoyed a pretty decent 2021/22 season in Los Angeles, scoring 12 goals and assisting a further two in 25 MLS appearances.

Overall at LA Galaxy, Mexico’s record scorer has bagged 32 goals in 62 appearances, which is a pretty decent return.

Just cut out the theatrics please…
