A new Rovers contract update for another of Valerien Ismael's star players has left Blackburn fans far from pleased.
Blackburn Rovers defender Dom Hyam doesn't want to leave the club this summer but hasn't accepted the contract offer he's been handed, leaving his future at Ewood Park firmly up in the air and supporters far from happy.
Valerien Ismael has already seen a number of his star players leave the club so far this summer.
Callum Brittain has signed for Middlesbrough, Joe Rankin-Costello sealed a move to Charlton, whilst Tyrhys Dolan (Espanyol), Andreas Weimann and Danny Batth (both joined Derby) respectively, all signed contracts with other clubs as free agents.
These departures have evidently taken their toll, as Rovers are so far yet to claim victory in the 2025/26 season, losing on opening weekend to West Brom, before being dumped out of the Carabao Cup to Bradford City in midweek.
It's been a fairly frustrating summer for Blackburn supporters when it comes to their transfer business.
Whilst they've been able to sign the likes of Sidnei Tavares, Dion De Neve, Sean McLoughlin and Axel Henriksson respectively, they've also seen their side be stripped of numerous key contributors.
There looks set to be more disappointment in that regard too, as club captain Lewis Travis appears to have his heart set on a move away from East Lancashire, with a potential reunion with John Eustace at Derby County looking likely.
Now in a fresh update from the Lancashire Telegraph on Thursday, it has been revealed that Dom Hyam is now also staring his Ewood Park mortality in the face, with the club now left in a challenging position.
It's said that the 29-year-old central defender has been offered a two-year extension on the same terms as when he joined the club in 2021, meaning he would not be lost as a free agent next summer should he put pen to paper on that deal.
However, it's understood that this offer is not likely to be accepted at this moment in time, despite the fact it's stated that the Scotland international is happy at Blackburn, and doesn't hold a desire to leave the club this summer.
That's causing a problem though, as whilst he's understood to be happy to play out his final year under contract before leaving as a free agent next summer, or indeed ink a new deal if the terms are improved, Rovers are said to be open to a sale this summer if he won't commit his future to the club.
Blackburn are keen to learn from the aforementioned Dolan situation, and as such, won't want to lose another saleable asset for nothing and thus deprive themselves further of vital transfer funds.
The Lancashire Telegraph report that no offers for Hyam are currently on the table from other clubs for the defender.
Understandably, Blackburn supporters aren't best pleased with this latest contract saga developing that concerns another of their star players.
"Wow this is ridiculous, what an absolute mess this club is," one fan wrote in response to Blackburn Rovers reporter Elliott Jackson's report via X.
"Same money from four years ago… even if it is a lot in comparison to non-footballers that’s a joke for the player he has become for us, unless it’s a structured pay rise over the two years on offer, I don’t blame him one bit for not accepting," another said.
"Why not just offer decent contracts!!," exclaimed another angry Blackburn supporter.
"I think we are now a bit beyond selling the family silver. They're looking to sell every single item of value the family owns. This is simply asset stripping," claimed another.
Blackburn resume their 25/26 Championship campaign at home to Birmingham City this Saturday.
