Arsenal have been dealt a significant injury concern after Riccardo Calafiori appeared to injure his knee while playing for Italy.

Calafiori was forced off late on in Italy’s 2-1 defeat to Germany after an awkward slip saw his knee buckle.

The defender received treatment and could not continue.

Asked by reporters after the game how serious the injury was, Calafiori responded: “I still don’t know.”

The 22-year-old suffered a knee injury earlier this season too which forced him to miss several games for the Gunners.

Arsenal are waiting to hear back on the severity of the problem and it remains to be seen whether Calafiori will miss any games when he returns from international duty.

Elsewhere, Jurrien Timber was a surprise absentee from the Netherlands squad due to illness.

The Arsenal defender was called up by Ronald Koeman to face Spain in the Nations League but was not part of the squad which drew 2-2 in Rotterdam.

Koeman will be hoping Timber can recover in time for the second leg in Spain.

Arsenal’s makeshift striker Mikel Merino scored a stoppage-time equaliser to ensure the points were split between the two sides.

Merino was brought on in the 84th minute and reacted quickly to score on the rebound in the 93rd minute to rescue a draw for his nation.

Meanwhile, William Saliba played the whole 90 minutes as France were beaten 2-0 by Croatia.

Oleksandr Zinchenko’s Ukraine came out on top over Leandro Trossard’s Belgium with a 3-1 victory, with Zinchenko playing the whole game while Trossard started but was taken off with ten minutes remaining.

Kieran Tierney came on as a 76th minute substitute as Scotland beat Greece 1-0.

And Gabriel helped Brazil to a 2-1 win over Colombia, playing the entirety of the game and impressing alongside Marquinhos.
