Former Borussia Dortmund hero Kevin Großkreutz has announced his retirement from the game at the age of 32.

The local hero was on the books at BVB as a child before returning in 2009 for a very successful six-year spell.

He was most recently on the books at Uerdingen but had been without a club since leaving there last year.

Taking to Instagram on Sunday evening, Großkreutz confirmed his decision to hang up his boots via a short video.

The versatile wide man also turned out for Rot Weiss Ahlen, Stuttgart and Darmstadt during his career.

Großkreutz also picked up six caps for Germany and was part of the squad which won the World Cup in 2014.
