According to Sacha Tavolieri, Angers midfielder Sofiane Boufal may be headed back to Qatar, but this time to play with Al Sadd. After the World Cup Boufal and his Morroco teammate – Azzedine Ounahi were both picked for big moves after their impressive performances. For Ounahi, that move has come with a transfer to Marseille.

It seems it is now the 29-year-old winger’s turn with discussions advancing with the Qatar-based club. The Parisian-born player has been at Angers since his return from the Premier League in 2020. Outside of scoring the Premier League Goal of the Season in 2017–18 the winger never really found the success he may have hoped for given his skillset. However, he has suffered from injuries throughout his career.

During his return to Angers, there were glimpses here and there in Ligue 1 where you would see the brilliance that got him to Southampton and turned so many heads in the World Cup.  Al Sadd is one of the most successful teams in the Qatar Stars League. There are no other details on the player or the club’s position on the move.
