South Korea’s 2022 World Cup journey will be continuing after yet another dramatic day of football.

Going into the final round of Group H matches on Friday, the Asian nation looked the least likely of the four to reach the Round of 16.

South Korea had just one point to their name after being held to a 0-0 draw by Uruguay and then suffering a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Ghana.

South Korea’s first two results left them in quite the predicament. They had to beat Portugal and hope that Ghana didn’t defeat Uruguay.

And guess what? That’s exactly what happened.

Uruguay saw off Ghana 2-0, a result which looked as if it would take them through for quite some time, while South Korea emerged with a 2-1 victory over Portugal in the most dramatic of circumstances.

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Hwang Hee-chan scored the game’s third and final goal in the 91st minute, a strike which broke the heart of Luis Suarez on the Uruguay bench.

But there was still time for Uruguay to score another against Ghana and secure second spot in the group. To make things even more chaotic, South Korea’s match was the first to finish.

So, after doing their bit, Heung-min Son and his merry men gathered on the pitch to watch the remainder of the other game.

Commentator Derek Rae videoed the South Koreans from the stands and the footage he captured perfectly sums up why the World Cup is the best sporting event on the planet.

Check it out in all of its glory…

Imagine not loving football and the World Cup, eh?

The celebrations from the South Korea players after Uruguay failed to score a third were simply marvellous – and we’re a huge fan of the belly slides!

But the Taegeuk Warriors won’t have long to let their rather epic qualification sink in, as a date with World Cup favourites Brazil awaits them in a matter of days.

The two nations will lock horns next Monday at 7pm GMT and it’ll be a mammoth shock if South Korea progress to the quarter-finals.

However, in a World Cup littered with surprise results, including Japan victories over both Spain and Germany, you’d be a fool to rule it out entirely.
