Richarlison stole the show for Brazil last night as his nation triumphed 2-0 over a tough Serbian side in their World Cup opener.

Two goals for the Tottenham man – including one extra special wondergoal – were enough to secure victory for his team on the night and simultaneously catapult him into pole position for the Golden Boot award, in the eyes of the bookies.

His second goal, a spectacular overhead kick after a delightful first touch, had every fan in the Lusail Stadium off their seat.

It will go down as one of the iconic World Cup goals and might even be voted Goal of the Tournament.

The emotion radiated off of him and all of his Selecao teammates when celebrating the beauty, even Gabriel Jesus, who was omitted from the starting XI at Richarlison’s expense, stood up and applauded which showed truly great sportsmanship on behalf of Arsenal’s talisman.

Nobody can deny it, there is a deliberate aura about Brazil in Qatar.

They’re tournament favourites for a reason. They’ve got the quality. They’ve got the swagger.

So, it’s no surprise that the mood in the camp is sky high.

The positivity between the players was epitomised when a moment between Richarlison and footballing legend, Dani Alves, was caught on camera mid-game.

Richarlison had just been subbed off to a standing ovation from the Brazil support.

When he got to the bench he sat down alongside Alves – who was clearly delighted to see him.

Alves, ever the joker, pointed to a camera and then began engaging in one of the most bizarre handshakes with the match-winner.

Ah, brotherly love at its finest.

Alves is no doubt well aware of Richarlison’s importance to Brazil’s tournament hopes and so it’s good that he’s taking the time to take him under his wing.

Last night, the striker became the first player since Neymar to score a brace on his World Cup debut, putting him in some elite company.

No doubt he will continue to lead the line for the Selecao throughout the remainder of the group stage, and he’ll surely have his eyes fixed firmly on that Golden Boot award.

Can you name these 30 ‘streets won’t forget’ players from World Cups?
