Argentina reached the final of the 2022 World Cup on Tuesday evening.

Argentina’s start to the tournament couldn’t have gone any worse.

Lionel Scaloni’s side went into the competition as one of the favourites but were shocked by Saudi Arabia in their opening group game.

They’ve responded brilliantly, though, recording victories against Mexico, Poland, Australia and Netherlands to reach the last four.

They then demolished Croatia in their semi-final clash.

Goals from the brilliant Lionel Messi and a Julian Alvarez brace gave Argentina 3-0 victory.

They will now face France in the final following their 2-0 victory over Morocco.

Fan has shocker thinking they had bet on Argentina

A fan has had a nightmare thinking they had bet on Argentina to win the FIFA World Cup.

Twitter user @LukeCarey1881 took to the platform to share a bet made by one of his friends.

The punter thought they had placed a £38 bet on Argentina to win the tournament at 28/1. The bet would have returned £1,064 if it had come in.

The punter would have no doubt have been getting more and more excited as Argentina progressed through the competition.

But, just days before the final, Luke grew suspicious at the generous odds and had a look at his mate’s bet.

It turns out his mate had actually bet on Argentina to win the Rugby World Cup instead of the FIFA World Cup.

Alongside a screenshot of the bet on Twitter, he wrote: “My mate thought he had Argentina to win the World Cup the whole tournament, I thought the odds were too good to be true, turns out he betted on the Rugby World Cup.”

Oh no. That must have been heartbreaking for the punter when they found out.

The tweet has gone viral, having attracted over 37k likes and 2.5k retweets at the time of writing.

The punter is even being mocked by Specsavers, who tweeted: “Do you know his nearest store?”

Will Argentina win the Rugby World Cup?

Argentina aren’t as good at Rugby as they are at football, unfortunately.

They aren’t a bad side and are ranked eighth in the world.

But the chances of them winning a competition that features powerhouses including Australia and New Zealand are slim.

Still, they have an outside chance to win the tournament, which kicks off in France in September 2023.
