Wales are set to make their first World Cup appearance since 1958, when they lost to Brazil, in a game in which a boy named Pele scored his first goal for his nation.
Wales have had somewhat of a resurgence in the last 10 years, following on from their 2016 Euros semi final run, only losing to eventual winners Portugal.
This World Cup is likely the last which the Welsh ‘golden’ generation will see, as Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey both near retirement.
USA on the other hand are a country which has arguably got its best team yet coming into this World Cup, players like Christian Pulisic, Tyler Adams and Brendan Aaronson all coming into their own.
USA are joint hosts of the competition (with Canada and Mexico) in 2026, and will be hoping to put in an impressive performance to boost their reputation on the pitch before their home World Cup.
USA look set to enter the fixture with a clean bill of health which is the ideal scenario for the Americans, as their young stars all look to leave their mark on the world stage.
Wales will be without midfielder Joe Allen who has a reputation for Wales at tournaments of turning into a ‘Welsh Pirlo’. Gareth Bale will also be a worry having not played a lot for Los Angeles FC in the run up to the competition, Bale however is a player who can perform out of nowhere with moments of magic.
Possible Lineups
USA: Turner; Dest, Zimmerman, Ream, Robinson; Adams, McKennie, Musah; Pulisic, Ferreira, Aaronson
Wales: Hennessey; Roberts, Rodon, Davies, Williams; Ampadu, Ramsey; James, Bale, Johnson; Moore
Predicition: USA 2-2 Wales
