Japan will look to keep their momentum from the win over Germany going when they take on Costa Rica today.

The Blue Samurais shocked the world with their win, whereas Costa Rica picked up the worst result of the tournament so far by losing 7-0 to Spain earlier this week. While a win for Japan will take them to the next round, Costa Rica are fighting for survival in the game.

Team News:

Hiroki Sakai, who went off in the game against Germany, didn’t take part in the previous training session and he is unlikely to feature. Takehiro Tomiyasu also missed training, but he is more likely to take Sakai’s role. Yuto Nagatomo should also start at left-back, even though he was taken off early.

For Costa Rica, there are no immediate injury concerns and they have a fully fit squad. Because of the result against Spain though, they could make changes to the side.
