It can’t be anything other than Salem Al-Dawsari’s 53rd minute winner for Saudi Arabia against Argentina, one of the World Cup’s biggest ever shocks, especially after Lionel Messi had put Argentina ahead in the first half.

Do you have a memorable photo?

At the risk of sounding repetitive, Salem Al-Dawsari’s backflip after scoring what turned out to be the game-winner encapsulated the joy of an underdog win, a feat so great that Saudi Arabia declared a national holiday on Wednesday.

Just like Roger Milla’s dance, or Maradona’s ‘Hand of God’, this moment will endure through the ages.

Got any interesting stats or facts?

After Manchester United dropped the bombshell that they had come to a mutual agreement with Cristiano Ronaldo to terminate his contract, the Portugal star will be in the almost unprecedented situation of performing at the World Cup as a free agent. Only one player has previously netted at a World Cup without being attached to a club.

Oh, and last night saw Olivier Giroud equal Thierry Henry as France’s record goalscorer with a brace against Australia!

And if I need a laugh, what happened that’ll tickle me?

The Cristiano Ronaldo news dropped during Poland’s match with Mexico, and was obviously then discussed by the BBC pundits after the match. Burnley boss Vincent Kompany just happened to be in the studio, and so Gary Lineker took the opportunity to ask him if he’d take the now free agent at the Lancashire club.

His accidentally savage response was issued in all seriousness, perhaps not realising that a throwaway comment about Ronaldo will travel far and wide

Well, I’m free today, what can I not afford to miss?

Settle down for another jam-packed day, bound to be full of entertaining moments.

It starts with the 2018 finalists Croatia in action versus Morocco, then Germany and Spain begin their World Cup campaigns, taking on Japan and Costa Rica respectively. The late game sees Canada – in their first World Cup for 36 years – take on a Belgium side without the injured Romelu Lukaku.

And lastly, have you got a player to watch?

We could have another underdog story on our hands with Canada, and the man who could make something happen for them is Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies.

His dynamic displays from wing-back at Bayern are always good to watch but he plays further forward for his national team and boss John Herdman has already confirmed that he is expected to start.
