With 55 days remaining until the World Cup, we remember the 55 goals that Romário scored for Brazil.

Arguably, his most important one came against Sweden at USA ’94, which subsequently ensured their progression to the World Cup final – a tournament they would go on to win, of course.

“Inside the area I was the best,” he said. It’s hard to argue. The striker known as Baixinho or ‘the little one’, was undoubtedly the centrepiece for Brazil lifting the trophy that year.

Romário made 70 appearances for his country and scored 55 goals. An average of 0.71 goals per game. Only three players found the net more often than did: Pelé (77), Ronaldo (67) and Zico (66).

On account of his goals and the influential role he played in earning the Seleção’s fourth World Cup, Romário has immortalized the #11 shirt in Brazil.
