ā€œInside the area I was the best,ā€ he said. It’s hard to argue. The striker known as Baixinho or ā€˜the little one’, was undoubtedly the centrepiece for Brazil lifting the trophy that year.

RomƔrio made 70 appearances for his country and scored 55 goals. An average of 0.71 goals per game. Only three players found the net more often than did: PelƩ (77), Ronaldo (67) and Zico (66).

On account of his goals and the influential role he played in earning the Seleção’s fourth World Cup, RomĆ”rio has immortalized the #11 shirt in Brazil.
