Achraf Hakimi enjoyed a wholesome moment with his mum after firing Morocco into the quarter-finals at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Hakimi was the hero as he scored the decisive penalty in a shootout against Spain, putting a nerveless panenka past goalkeeper Unai Simon.

The PSG defender sent Morocco into the final eight of the World Cup for the first time in history.

His penalty sparked jubilant celebrations among his teammates, and Hakimi made sure to include his mother in the revelry.

The 24-year-old ran over to his mum in the stands, climbing up to hug and kiss her. A camera was on hand to capture the emotional moment, and it is truly wholesome.

What has Achraf Hakimi previously said about his family?

Hakimi has been sure to celebrate every success at the World Cup with his mum, and it’s clear to see why this is so important to him.

The star was born in Madrid to Moroccan parents, joining Real Madrid’s youth setup when he was eight years old.

Saida Mou, Hakimi’s mother, used to clean houses in the Spanish capital, while her husband was a street vendor.

Hakimi spoke in 2018 about the sacrifices his family made to allow him to play football as a child.

“We come from a modest family that struggled to earn a living,” he said “Today I fight every day for them.

“They sacrificed themselves for me. They deprived my brothers of many things for me to succeed.”

Who is Achraf Hakimi?

After rising up the ranks at Real Madrid, Hakimi made his first team debut in 2017.

He made two appearances in the club’s journey to its 13th Champions League title, becoming the first Moroccan player to win the competition.

Hakimi then moved to Borussia Dortmund on a two-year loan in 2018, before signing for Inter Milan in 2020.

Paris Saint-Germain. The transfer fee was a reported €60 million (£58.1m), with €11m (£9.5m) in potential add-ons.
