But how many times have Spain won the World Cup and when did they last manage to lift the iconic trophy?
Spain last won the World Cup in 2010.
The national team went to South Africa and were able to win the whole thing.

The showpiece needed extra time, with Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta scoring the winner.
Just once.
While they went into the 2014 World Cup as champions, they were knocked out in the group stages, being humiliated by the Dutch, who beat them 5-1, and also losing 2-0 to Chile. They did beat Australia but were already eliminated at that stage.
They also only won one group game in 2018, beating IranMorocco. They were knocked out in the Round of 16 by hosts Russia on penalties.
Spain have only ever reached the World Cup final once, and that was in the tournament they won.
They did finish fourth in the 1950 tournament in Brazil, but they will be coming into this winter’s competition with a chip on their shoulder after their flops in both 2014 and 2018.
Spain’s squad has been announced for the tournament and there are some shocks in there!
