Ed Woodward has backed Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and says the Norwegian is part of the club’s ‘footballing vision’

The club’s executive vice-chairman was speaking on a call with investors about United’s latest financial results and has backed Solskjaer to bring success to Old Trafford, despite the Red Devils suffering a fall in operating profits and recorded revenues.

Whilst Manchester United‘s commercial revenues have increased by 7% in the second quarter, their net debt has risen by 23.2% to £391.3m, whilst there has also been a 17% fall in operating profit to £36.5m – a fall largely due to the club’s absence from Champions League football this season.

Despite the figures, however, Woodward is confident the club are making progress and has backed Solskjaer to be the man to deliver silverware back to the club.

United currently sit fifth in the Premier League and remain in contention for both the Europa League and FA Cup, with Woodward stating he believes the club’s ‘long-term’ rebuild to be heading in the right direction.

“We are pushing for a strong finish in the Premier League, the Europa League and the FA Cup as we enter the final third of the season,” Woodward said.

“We have continued to make progress on our squad rebuild, with many changes in terms of players that we have brought in and players that have come through our academy; the foundation for delivering the long-term success that we are all working towards is in place as we implement our plan and our footballing vision with Ole.”
