GiveMeSport Women selects the nine best signings made over the past few weeks, based on how successful the transfer will be for both the player and club.

Beth England to Tottenham Hotspur

Beth England has already scored two goals in two matches for Spurs, and will be hoping to continue these exploits to secure a place in the Lionesses squad for the Women’s World Cup.

The 28-year-old is already paying dividends for Tottenham, who have been struggling to score all season. A proven striker moving to a team desperately in need of goals? Sounds like a match made in heaven, and it could well be the signing of the season.

Jordan Nobbs to Aston Villa

Jordan Nobbs is another player who has switched clubs to get more game time before the World Cup, having found herself out of favour at Arsenal.

On her day, the 30-year-old is one of the best midfielders in England, and she is joining a Villa side full of talented players. With more time on the pitch, Nobbs can regain her world-class form and help her new club move up the WSL table.

Ruby Mace to Leicester

Ruby Mace has joined Leicester on loan from Manchester City, and the defender could well help the Foxes escape from relegation.

At 19-years-old, Mace is one of the most highly-rated young talents in English football, but she has struggled to get game time at her parent club.

She should slot straight into Leicester’s back four, but she can also play in midfield. Either way, the move should end up being incredibly valuable for her development as a player.

Fuka Nugano to Liverpool

Liverpool are aiming to consolidate their status as a WSL club, and Fuka Nugano is the calibre of signing they want to be making.

The 23-year-old midfielder is a regular for Japan’s national team, and has most recently been playing for the North Carolina Courage in the NWSL.

Her performance during Liverpool’s Conti Cup match against West Ham left fans impressed, and she should make a big difference for the Reds in the middle of the pitch.

Victoria Pelova to Arsenal

Victoria Pelova has played twice for Arsenal so far, showing exactly why she was wanted by the North London club.

Brilliant on the ball, the 23-year-old is also extremely versatile, offering manager Jonas Eidevall a number of options as he chases down his first WSL title.

With Arsenal soon needing to balance their league ambitions with the Champions League knockout stages, Pelova is an excellent addition to add depth to the Gunners squad.

Jayde Riviere is another exciting young talent who has arrived in the WSL this month. She signed her first professional contract with Manchester United after her time as a student-athlete at the University of Michigan came to an end.

The full-back made her debut for Canada at just 16-years-old, and has since won an Olympic gold medal with the national team.

Manchester United are on track to qualify for the Champions League for the first time, and are even in with a shout of winning the league.

Signing players such as Riviere will allow Red Devils boss Marc Skinner to rotate his squad with high-quality players as he looks to secure his team’s highest-ever finish in the WSL.

Mana Iwabuchi to Tottenham Hotspur

It’s fair to say that Spurs have had a decent transfer window, with Iwabuchi the second Tottenham signing to make this list.

Iwabuchi was another to fall out of favour at Arsenal, and with the Women’s World Cup looming, completed a loan move to her club’s arch rivals.

While she’s apologised to fans for the nature of her transfer, Iwabuchi does need more game time, and she’ll certainly find it at Spurs.

The move is also beneficial for her new club, who will be hoping the 2011 World Cup winner links up well with Beth England to create a serious amount of goals.

This signing has gone slightly under the radar, but Manchester United’s Jade Moore heading to Reading on loan is a great bit of business.

With Reading struggling this season, a highly-experienced midfielder is exactly what they need. Likewise, Moore will be hoping for time on the pitch, and could make a serious impact as the Royals look to stay away from the relegation zone.

What’s more, the 32-year-old previously played at the club from 2017 to 2020, so should settle back in quickly.

Aston Villa have been making moves this season, and Lucy Staniforth is another brilliant addition to the team’s midfield.

The 30-year-old is incredibly experienced, having now played for six WSL clubs in total. Her know-how will be crucial for Villa as the side aims to become one of the best in the league.

Staniforth has an outside shot at making England’s World Cup squad, so she will be hoping to make an impression for the rest of the season.
