City in the driving seat after 92nd-minute winner puts them top of the Women’s Super League, while London turns blue as Chelsea win at the Emirates.

A second half brace, including a stoppage-time winner, for Bunny Shaw rescued the three points for Man City, as they hopped straight back to the top of the WSL. Last season’s golden boot winner increased her tally to three for the season, joining Kiko Seike and Rachel Daly at the top of this year’s leaderboard after four games. Shaw described it as an “ugly win,” a phrase used by captain Alex Greenwood as they beat Brighton 1-0 two weeks ago.  Meanwhile, Liverpool let a lead slip away again, after Olivia Smith scored a superb goal to open proceedings. It seemed fitting that the first goal at Anfield this season came from the Reds’ record signing, who bagged her second of the season with another brilliant goal, however fans will be anxious after she went off injured. Man City boss Gareth Taylor said: “Days like today are fantastic – it really solidifies what we do. We had a big high during the week and we were able to back it up with another big result. Those are great moments”

Mead calls on fans for support [Arsenal 1-2 Chelsea]

London was blue as Chelsea came out on top at the Emirates, thanks to two goals within the first 16 minutes, that Arsenal couldn’t match. Pressure on Jonas Eidevall ramped up following the goalless draw with Everton a week before and a midweek Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich, as they lost 5-2, after being level with 35 minutes left. Following the match, Lioness Beth Mead asked fans to rally behind her side at a difficult time. She said: “Players just need a bit more confidence, we’re in a tough place at the moment, people need to help us a little bit. I think there’s not so many nice things being said about us as a team right now and it’s not the place or the time for doing that for us, we need to be picked up. We are really trying as players, trying to sort it out on and off the pitch and that’s all we can do, keep going, keep believing in each other, stick together and hopefully the results will start coming.”

Two for Terland as United keep firing [Man United 3-0 Spurs]

After scoring 13 in the league last season for Brighton, it was only a matter of time before Elisabeth Terland got off the mark for United. And get off the mark she did, as she scored two brilliant goals to help the Red Devils maintain their 100% record this season. Manager Marc Skinner compared her to Erling Haaland, and she will be hoping to match his goal scoring stats this season. Terland said: “I should have had a hat-trick, that is something I need to work on and I’ll just save it!”

Seagulls keep flying [Crystal Palace 0-1 Brighton]

The Seagulls overcame the Eagles and soared up to fourth in the table, continuing their impressive start to the season. A 35th minute goal from on-loan Barcelona forward Bruna Vilamala strike was the decider, but keeper Sophie Baggaley made a crucial stoppage-time save to deny Annabel Blanchard her third in two weeks. Brighton boss Dario Vidosic said: “I’m happy with the win but we had to grind it out. We were probably our own worst enemies for a lot of that game with so many simple mistakes.”

Toffees stuck to the bottom [Everton 1-1 West Ham]

It’s probably too early in the season to call this a relegation battle, but these two teams remain bottom of the WSL after a draw that keeps both teams’ goal difference at -5. Everton found the net for the first time this campaign, although it was through a Camila Saez own goal so a player in blue is yet to score. West Ham Boss Rehanne Skinner seemed the happier of the two managers. She said: “It’s progress – we didn’t get any points against Everton last year, so it’s an important point away from home.”

Winless Villa lack killer instinct [Aston Villa 0-0 Leicester]

After a cagey goalless draw was played out at Villa Park, both teams were left still searching for their first win of the season. The Foxes have now failed to win their last 12 WSL matches, a statistic new manager Amandine Miquel will be hoping to change, although she left pleased with the draw. She said: “Today the draw is a good draw if you analyse everything. Hopefully next week we can be a bit more dangerous offensively.”
