Saturday’s women’s internationals saw Chile win an Olympics play-off, USA level late on in Sweden and Germany thrash Australia.

Chile claimed a 2-1 ‘away’ win in their Olympics South America/Africa qualifying Play-Off 1st Leg over Cameroon. Played in Turkey, central defenders Camila Saez and Carla Guerrero gave Chile a 2-0 lead, but Ajara Nchout Njoya pulled a goal back when Christiane Endler was eventually beaten.

A Lina Hurtig header from a corner kick by Kosovare Asllani gave Sweden an interval lead over the USA.  With three minutes remaining, Kelly O’Hara was brought down by Sofia Jakobsson and Megan Rapinoe converted the resulting penalty, thereby extending the USA’s undefeated run to 38 games.

Carli Lloyd chalked up her 300th cap, becoming the third player – female or male – to reach the milestone, behind fellow Americans Kristine Lilly (354) and Christie Pearce Rampone (311).

Germany netted four second-half goals in a 5-2 defeat of Australia. Sjoeke Nusken’s 11th-minute opener was added to early in the second half by Kathrin Hendrich. Julie Brand and Laura Friegang made it 4-0 going into the last quarter of the match, when Emily Gielnik replied either side of a Linda Dallmann goal in added time.

Italy edged Iceland 1-0 with an Arianna Caruso goal in the last 20 minutes.
