Beth Mead appears in our list of records that could be broken during Women’s Euro 2025.
Women’s Euro 2025 is just around the corner and several records might be broken during the 14th Women’s European Championship.
Germany’s dominance of the tournament means that several records will be out of reach for many years to come.
They have won eight out of the 13 European Championships held, with only one other country (Norway – 2) winning the trophy more than once.
It will also take some time before a player ever matches the player record for most titles won which is held by Birgit Prinz and Nadine Angerer on five.
Below, we take a look at the records that could be broken during this summer’s Euro 2025.
Beth Mead is one of three players who holds the European Championship record for most goals at a single Women’s Euros.
The England star scored six goals to help her country lift the trophy three years ago.
She was the joint-top scorer of the tournament alongside German striker Alexandra Popp.
The record was first set by Popp’s German compatriot Inka Grings at Euro 2009.
Arsenal star Beth Mead could add another record to her name at Women’s Euro 2025.
If she scores four goals in Switzerland this summer, she will tie the record for most goals in Women’s Euros history.
The record is currently held by German legends Inka Grings and Birgit Prinz.
Prinz scored 10 goals over five tournaments between 1995 and 2009, while Grings netted her 10 goals over two tournaments in 2005 and 2009.
If Mead can score five goals at the Women’s Euros, then she will set the new figure to beat at 11 goals.
England also hold the record for the most goals by a nation in the group stage of the Women’s Euros.
The Lionesses scored 14 goals across three matches at their home Euros in 2022.
This was in large part down to their 8-0 thrashing of Norway in Brighton. The Lionesses also netted five goals against Northern Ireland and one against Austria.
It will be a tough record to beat but it is not unachievable. Germany scored 16 goals in their last three Nations League games – putting six past Scotland and Austria, and four past the Netherlands.
England’s group stage success at Euro 2022 also contributed to them scoring the most goals by any team at a single Women’s Euros tournament.
The Lionesses scored 22 goals across six games at Euro 2022. Following the group stage, they netted two against Spain, four against Sweden, and two against Germany in the final.
To beat this record, a team would have to reach the final and average over 3.6 goals per match.
Euro 2025 could break the overall attendance record for the Women’s European Championship.
The current record was set by hosts England at Euro 2022, where a collective 574,875 fans attended matches.
There was around 700,000 tickets on offer to watch the action in Switzerland at Euro 2025.
It won’t be so easy to beat the record set by England, but the growing popularity in women’s football suggests the 2022 total could be broken.
Several European Championship records could also be extended at Women’s Euro 2025.
Germany are among the contenders to win Euro 2025, which would extend their list of titles to nine – seven more than any other nation.
This would also increase their record of most finals reached to 10, and semi-final appearances to 11.
Should Italy reach the final and lose, their record for the most final appearances without winning a Women’s Euros would go up to three.
Meanwhile, Spain, France and Finland are among the only countries to reach a semi-final without ever reaching a final at the Women’s Euros.
If any of those nations are knocked out in the semi-finals, they would become the first country to two semi-finals without making the final.
However, Spain, according to the UK’s best football betting sites, are favourites to win Euro 2025 at odds of 2/1.
Another long-shot record that could be extended is if the Euro 2025 final is played out between Germany and Norway. Those two nations have currently played against each other in the final on four occasions.
