Midfielder Nico Gonzalez’s future could come under immense scrutiny since a fresh report from SPORT has confirmed that Premier League side Wolves have made him one of their top targets for the summer.

At Barcelona though, there’s still some confusion regarding the nature of the deal. As of today, the management is still debating whether to offload the 20-year-old on a permanent transfer or just send him on loan.

It’s no secret that Barcelona and Wolves share a great working relationship which is mostly down to the presence of a certain Jorge Mendes.

The Portuguese super-agent has brokered several deals between the teams in recent times and he could be in the thick of things once again. The player in question this time around is Ruben Neves.

The 25-year-old has attracted Barcelona’s interest mainly due to the uncertain future of Frenkie de Jong. If the Dutchman is to depart, the Blaugrana will turn their attention to Neves; an operation that wouldn’t be as economical as they would think.

There are claims that Wolves initially demanded as much as €50 million for their midfielder, but their stance softened after bringing up three Barcelona players who could be a part of the deal.

The names that were brought up were that of Nico Gonzalez himself, Oscar Mingueza and Riqui Puig. Now, Barcelona are open to selling the likes of Mingueza and Puig, but they are still undecided over Nico.

It remains to be seen what the next course of action would be, especially for Barcelona who are working on minimizing the spending this summer.

Now, Frenkie de Jong sure remains a valuable player, but Barcelona need finances and in today’s market, his sale can rope a big chunk. If a swap deal with Wolves is indeed brokered, Barcelona will have plenty of capital left from the sale to work within.
