Time to go

Wolves must ruthlessly axe Curtrone this summer and cash in on him whilst the interest is there. If Villarreal are ready to submit a tangible offer for the attacker then Bruno Lage must sanction his exit and use the funds to strengthen other areas of the squad with the money raised from his sale.

Curtrone went out on loan to Fiorentina and Valencia last season and failed to prove that he has what it takes to return to Molineux and stake a claim for his place in the squad. He registered zero goals and zero assists 18 appearances for the two sides combined, with all of his games coming off the bench as a substitute.

The forward scored twice in 18 games in his first campaign for Wolves but was restricted to six starts under Nuno Santo. He was unable to showcase his quality before being sent out on loan for the 2020/21 season.

Speaking about Santo’s management of him previously, Cutrone claimed that he was too stubborn and would only select his players who won promotion in the 2017/18 campaign. He said: “Many people say I didn’t settle in, but that’s false.

“The truth is that the coach, Nuno Espirito Santo, had his group of faithful players who he would not give up, those who won promotion from the Championship.

“He was totally fixated on that XI, always the same XI, and couldn’t see any of the other players in the squad.”

Cutrone was not happy with the current Spurs manager’s management and did not feel he had a fair chance at Wolves. The £63k-per-week dud was unable to prove him wrong during his loan spells at Valencia or Fiorentina, though, and that means that it is time for the club to cash in on him and shift him off to Villarreal before the end of the window to recoup some money for his services.

It might be ruthless to sell a player without him ever featuring for a new manager, but that’s exactly what Wolves should do here.
