Wolves v Liverpool – Premier League Preview

This is the final ever time that I will be writing a match preview with Jürgen Klopp in charge of Liverpool. The raised hopes of a final Premier League charge under the stewardship of the great German have now faded, with this moment and game now about saying goodbye to one of Anfield’s greatest ever managers. Wolves will be the last encounter of the season and this will hopefully be the fitting send-off that the Merseyside support craves.

The Wolves Availability

In terms of availability, Craig Dawson, and Leon Chiwone out, whereas both Pablo Sarabia and Pedro Neto are doubts for this game. Gary O’Neil has seen his side stutter to the finish line, after a 1-3 loss at home to a resurgent Crystal Palace, after an emphatic 5-1 defeat away to league leaders Manchester City. A 2-1 win at home to Luton preceded that pair of losses, as the team finished with mild stagnation. Following 37-games played, Wanderers sit in 13th position, having attained a respectable 46-point total.

A predicted line up for the away team is listed below, in a 3-5-2 formation, one that will look to counter and use the trickery of Matheus Cunha behind the jet heeled Hwang Hee-chan.

GK – Dan Bentley

RWB – Matt Doherty

RCB – Nélson Semedo

CB – Max Kilman

LCB – Toti Gomes

LWB – Rayan Aït-Nouri

CM – Boubacar Traoré

CDM – Mario Lemina

CM – João Gomes

SS – Matheus Cunha

CF – Hwang Hee-chan

The Liverpool Availability

In terms of injures, Thiago Alcântara is the injured departee that may well make one last appearance last on in this game, whereas Joël Matip has sustained a season ending ACL injury, one which will also see him leave at the end of this season. Diogo Joga is a late fitness worry, who may be available only for the bench. Andy Robertson should start this game after missing last weekend.

Regarding recent form, an entertaining 3-3 draw at Villa Park followed a superb 4-2 home win against visiting Tottenham. That pair of superb encounters came after a 2-2 draw away to West Ham, which followed that 2-0 loss against Everton. After 37-games played, Liverpool have amassed a 79-point total and sit 3rd in the table, with their final league position now guaranteed.

Below is the team I believe the reds German manager will start for his final ever game as Liverpool boss.

GK – Alisson Becker

RB – Trent Alexander Arnold

RCB – Ibrahima Konaté

LCB – Virgil van Dijk (c)

LB – Andy Robertson

RCM – Dominik Szoboszlai

CDM – Waturu Endō

LCM – Alexis Mac Allister

RF – Mohamed Salah

CF – Cody Gakpo

LF – Luis Díaz

How Will This Contest Play Out

I cannot see a way in which Liverpool do not win this game, given the expectation of a loud and enthusiastic home crowd. The pressures of a title race are now gone; however, everyone must now play a part in attempting to impress the next man in charge, Arne Slot.

As one era ends, so beings another.

Player to watch – Mohamed Salah

Score Prediction;

Liverpool 2 – 0 Wolves
