Wolves squeeze past Luton as Hatters relegation worries continue | OneFootball

Wolves, finally, secured their first win in seven Premier League games. Meanwhile, Luton Town will see this result as a missed opportunity, as three points could have moved the Hatters out of the relegation zone.

Goals from Hwang Hee-Chan and Toti Gomes were enough to seal three points, however Luton did get one back through Carlton Morris late in the game.

That goal confirmed that Morris is the first Luton Town player to reach double digits in the top flight since Mick Harford in 1948-85

It was the visitors started the game with intent when an early chance from Ross Barkley tested Jose Sa.

However, Wolves had majority of the possession in the first 20 minutes and had a key chance to take the lead.

Mario Lemina’s pass pierced through the Luton defence to set Hee-Chan in on goal, but the South Korean could not beat Thomas Kaminski.

Carlton Morris had a close-range header saved by Sa, who cleared the ball long into Matheus Cunha, the Brazilian then found Hee-Chan in the box. The attacker cut inside and placed the ball into the bottom corner to give Wolves the lead.

Wolves supporters were relieved to hear the referees whistle ,for confirmation of the goal, amid to the recent VAR incidents in their last home game.

Shortly after the break, Wolves doubled their lead. Mario Lemina’s cross found Toti at the back post who scored with a well-timed diving header.

The hosts continued to pressure Rob Edwards’ side and should have had a third goal in the 68th minute, Matt Doherty released Semedo who cut inside and just had Kaminski to beat, but his effort was saved from close range.

The Hatters got back in the game with a goal from Carlton Morris, the corner was swung in at the back post and headed into the striker who finished in fashion.

Luton Town will next face Everton at Kenilworth Road on May 4, a key fixture in this relegation battle.

Wolves will travel to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City on May 4.
