This will be a hugely important summer of recruitment for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Get things wrong again and Nuno Santo can wave farewell to ambitions of European football for the Old Gold for another season.

Last year, the Old Gold tried to make a statement but it didn’t go entirely according to plan. Nelson Semedo has been a defensive liability after his move from Spain while Fabio Silva’s record-breaking £35.6m switch hasn’t been profitable.

The teenager has just four goals to his name since swapping Porto for the Midlands and it remains to be seen whether he comes good.

With Raul Jimenez absent since November, Wolves could certainly do with more firepower in their armoury.

They have been linked on a regular basis with a move for Carlos Vinicius. The Molineux outfit have tried to sign him on two separate occasions now but have so far been unsuccessful.

Benfica loaned him to Tottenham for the season with an option to buy but it’s unlikely they’ll take that up considering he’s started just three Premier League matches.

Combine that with a measly goal return of one strike in the league and it doesn’t feel like an attractive signing for Wolves.

That’s why Nuno should focus their efforts on landing Tammy Abraham instead.

It’s thought the Old Gold are in a race to sign him the Chelsea forward with Aston Villa, a club who could have the upper hand if you consider his loan spell at Villa Park a few years ago.

However, if Wolves can tempt him to Molineux, it would be an astute pick up.

Abraham has already proven he has what it takes to score regular goals in English football, finishing as Chelsea’s top marksman in 2019/20 with 18 goals. He is also the Blues’ top scorer this term, netting 12 in all competitions.

Described as “unbelievable” by Jack Grealish, it only feels like a matter of time before the England international starts scoring even more at the highest level.

He has plenty of traits that would suit Wolves too. Like Jimenez, he can hold the ball up and bring others into play. He’s also surprisingly mobile for such a tall forward.

It’s a style of play that’s been compared to one of the most striking footballers to grace the English game.

After scoring against Lille in the Champions League last season, Rio Ferdinand commented: “First half, one ball went up to him, Didier Drogba-esque, chests it down for someone, runs on for the next phase – I think he’s developing nicely. He’s scoring goals, he’s scoring different types of goals and I think he’s a threat.”

Vinicius is still very much an unknown quantity in England but with Abraham, you know what you’re getting; a first-class striker capable of terrifying defences. Wolves have to choose him instead.

AND in other news, Nuno must wield the axe on “uninspiring” £30k-p/w Wolves flop, he’s done at Molineux…
