On Friday evening, Tottenham announced that they acquired Benfica striker Carlos Vinícius on loan with a £38m option to buy.

However, Wolves have been eyeing the 25-year-old for a much longer period of time.

Portuguese journalist Rui Pedro Braz claims Wolves made even stronger attempts to land the Brazilian and even submitted a £54.3m (€60m) bid for the player in January, which was ultimately rejected.

In addition, Braz says that Wolves attempted to purchase the player for €45m (£40.8m) earlier in the summer but were turned away.

After having failed to land the player, Wolves turned to Porto and landed 18-year-old Fabio Silva for a club-record £37m (€40m) fee.

Time will only tell whether either player will rise to Premier League stardom.
