It looked like Wolves would have to wait until tomorrow to go up but a 94th minute goal from Neal Maupay saw Brentford rescue a 1-1 draw.

Nuno Espírito Santo’s side have dominated the Championship all season long, topping the league table since 31st October.

It’s six seasons since Wolves were relegated from the Premier League, with the club even spending the 2013/14 campaign in England’s third flight.

Three Championship seasons since then have been about stability but that changed in 2016, when the club was taken over by a Chinese conglomerate with ties to notorious Portuguese agent Jorge Mendes.

Last summer saw the club invest heavily, attracting Portugal international Ruben Neves from FC Porto. Top goalscorer Diogo Jota has been crucial during a loan spell from AtlÊtico Madrid and Portuguese winger Ivan Cavaleiro has also shone.

More unheralded signings such as Barry Douglas (from Konyaspor), John Ruddy and Ryan Bennett (both from Norwich City) have also been crucial.

Wolves also took Premier League champions-in-waiting Manchester City to penalties during a League Cup tie back in October, further underlining their credentials to join the top flight.

Just four more points will see Wolves confirmed as league winners.
