Wolverhampton Wanderers' medical team could play a key role in deciding whether Raul Jimenez will start this weekend's derby at Aston Villa, according to Express & Star journalist Luke Hatfield.

What's the latest news involving Jimenez?

Jimenez suffered a horrific head injury last year, with the striker sustaining a fractured skull following a gruesome clash of heads with then-Arsenal defender David Luiz at the Emirates Stadium.

The ordeal led to Jimenez revealing doctors told him he was lucky to still be alive.

But he made his comeback in Wolves' season opener at Leicester City and has failed to miss a single minute of the Premier League campaign.

Jimenez was forced to wait until last month before grabbing his first goal since the injury, with him claiming the winner at Southampton.

The frontman, who joined from Portuguese side Benfica for a club record fee of £30million in 2019, followed that up by contributing two assists in the victory over Newcastle United last time out.

Jimenez is currently on international duty with Mexico and, with their final fixture of the break taking place in the early hours of this morning, he will return to Molineux less than 48 hours before they travel to Aston Villa on Saturday.

What has Luke Hatfield said about Jimenez?

Hatfield believes Wolves need to be cautious with Jimenez after suffering a career and life-threatening injury less than 12 months ago.

His late return from international duty could also worsen his chances of maintaining his record of playing every minute of the Premier League season so far.

But Hatfield believes Wolves head coach Bruno Lage will be desperate to include Jimenez in his starting line-up for the derby with Aston Villa on Saturday.

The journalist told GIVEMESPORT: "Of course, Wolves' medical team will look at it and could say 'maybe bring him off the bench'.

"But I imagine he and Bruno Lage will be hoping that he is starting for Wolves against Villa."
