Since Fosun took on the ownership of Wolverhampton Wanderers, one of their biggest priorities has been to develop young players.

On a regular basis we see the Wolves recruitment team bring in talented individuals to be used exclusively in the under-23 side.

That was again one of the methods they used this summer, with the likes of Louie Moulden and Bendeguz Bolla arriving.

One the most famous examples includes Pedro Goncalves. Wolves made their move to sign the Portuguese in 2017 when he arrived from Valencia, but he would go on to earn just one appearance for the Old Gold.

That happened to be in the Carabao Cup as Nuno Santo handed him 28 minutes from the bench against Sheffield Wednesday in the second round in August 2018.

It’s puzzling that he made such a little impact at Wolves because his transfer value has since risen astronomically after he was sold.

Would Goncalves get in the current Wolves team?

Of course!

Goncalves’ talent was clear, especially to Rob Edwards, who only had positive words to say about the attacking midfielder. Speaking in February 2019, he said: “He’s [Goncalves] been outstanding for us this year.”

That didn’t seem to matter to the big dogs at Wolves, who were willing to let him leave just a matter of months down the line.

Goncalves penned terms with Famalicao in July 2019 for a fee of just £1.17m, and since then he’s become one of the biggest stars in Portugal.

He has signed for Sporting Lisbon and has become a rampaging force for the Portuguese giants. In two seasons, the vibrant forward has amassed 27 goals and five assists in just 42 outings.

Can you guess these obscure Wolves players? Here's the first one...

Joao Teixeira

Rafa Mir

A move to Liverpool has been mooted and it could be quite pricey considering his mighty release clause of £53m.

Few would be surprised if he did end up in English football again, especially after being compared to a certain Bruno Fernandes, who has been rampant in the Premier League after his own move from Sporting.

To suggest that Wolves made a mistake with Goncalves is probably somewhat of an understatement. He is a marvellous attacking player, one who Lage could certainly do with after their start to the season.

They are yet to pick up a point this season and they’ve also failed to score a single goal in the league. With Goncalves in their team, that might not have happened.

AND in other news, Wolves could be set for big blow after Molineux news emerges, fans should be gutted…
