Wolverhampton Wanderers need to find a way to get more out of players such as Matheus Cunha, Matheus Nunes and Pablo Sarabia at Molineux, journalist Dean Jones has suggested to GiveMeSport.

Julen Lopetegui’s side currently find themselves embroiled in a battle to stave off relegation to the Championship.

Wolves news – Latest

Wolves have been on an upward trajectory since Lopetegui took charge of his first game as head coach in December, having earned a possible 13 points from 21 before last weekend.

However, a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of relegation-threatened Bournemouth last Saturday has brought the West Midlands outfit back down to Earth, with the side now just three points above the drop zone.

The Spanish head coach was forced to hook both Cunha and Nunes off during the second half following underwhelming displays, whilst Sarabia was unable to create anything of note, rounding off a poor day for the trio, who could eventually cost the club around £85m in transfer fees.

And Jones believes that Wolves and Lopetegui are yet to stumble upon the “perfect formation” to get the best out of the three aforementioned names, as well as other members of the squad.

What has Jones said about Wolves?

Jones told GiveMeSport: “There's definitely potential to get more out of Cunha, Sarabia and Nunes. That's just three straight off the top of my head that I feel they could get more out of. They don't seem to have struck on the perfect formation yet.”

What next for Wolves?

It seems fair to suggest that a team who have scored just 17 Premier League goals all season – the joint-lowest amount in the Premier League – are not currently getting the best out of the players they have at their disposal.

This is compounded by the fact that the club’s three fit senior strikers in Cunha, Diego Costa and Raul Jimenez are yet to hit the back of the net in the top flight in a combined 25 appearances this season, with the side’s top scorers being Daniel Podence and Ruben Neves, who have both bagged five goals each.

Lopetegui’s immediate task will be to identify a system which is going to earn Wolves enough points to secure their Premier League status for next season, but the need to harness the creative talents of players such as Nunes, Sarabia and Cunha is becoming something of a necessity.

Therefore, the 56-year-old may feel that a change of system is required against sides who are happy to sit in and defend with the intention of striking on the counter, like Bournemouth demonstrated last weekend.
