"Alarm bells will start ringing" if Wolverhampton Wanderers fail to tie Adama Traore down to a new contract quickly, according to Express & Star reporter Luke Hatfield.
Reports suggest, in a bid to fend off interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, Wolves are looking to make Traore the club's highest-paid player by agreeing a new four-year deal worth £120,000-per-week.
The move comes after the lightning-quick winger, whose current £43,000-per-week contract expires in less than two years, was heavily linked with a switch to Spurs during the summer window.
Transfer insider Dean Jones fears Wolves will be disappointed in their efforts to ensure Traore's long-term future remains at Molineux as he told GMS the winger has set his sights on a move in the not-too-distant future.
Spurs, under former Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, looked to negotiate a season-long loan which included the view to a permanent £40million deal next summer.
However, Wolves were not interested in sanctioning a temporary move, resulting in Spurs returning with a £30million bid hours before the deadline.
£45million valuation for the 25-year-old.
Hatfield has urged Wolves to agree fresh terms with Traore imminently and fears the Spain international will have to be sold for a cut-price fee if a new contract is not signed by the time the season comes to an end.
He told GMS: "It's not long now and alarm bells will start ringing sooner or later because, next summer, he will only have a year left on his deal.
"Then they would really be struggling to protect the value of the player because the teams know they can pick him up for free in the next window.
"It's a really tough situation for Wolves."

Traore has started all four of Wolves' Premier League games so far and played a key role as Bruno Lage's side grabbed their first points of the campaign thanks to a 2-0 win over newly-promoted Watford at the weekend.
The winger also emerged as a late substitute in the League Cup second round thrashing of Championship side Nottingham Forest last month.
Traore's impressive form led to a call-up to Spain's squad during the international break, where he came off the bench in World Cup qualifiers against Sweden and Kosovo.
