Wolves are working on bringing a new striker to Molineux following Raul Jimenez‘s recent injury, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

Bruno Lage was in the market for another frontman before the Mexican international suffered a setback, with the Midlands outfit facing the prospect of starting the new season without a recognised number nine.

What happened to Jimenez?

Less than three weeks after Chiquinho suffered an ACL problem in pre-season, which is set to keep him out of the majority of the campaign, Wolves were hit with another setback when Jimenez got injured.

According to The Telegraph, the 31-year-old, who’d been enjoying a productive pre-season with two goals, endured a knee problem against Turkish outfit Besiktas the weekend before last and is facing the prospect of missing up to eight weeks.

Should that prove the case, Wolves could be without Jimenez for their opening eight Premier League games, which would see the frontman sidelined until after the first international break.

His absence leaves Lage with limited centre forward options ahead of their top-flight opener at Leeds this weekend, especially after Fabio Silva was recently loaned out to Anderlecht.

Therefore, Crook reckons that Wolves are already putting plans in place to bolster their frontline with the addition of a striker on a temporary basis.

What did Crook say about Wolves?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “They’re working on it and they’re ideally looking to bring someone in on loan with Premier League experience.”

Which strikers have Wolves been linked with?

With time running out before the window closes, Wolves’ options are looking limited right now.

According to reports in Portugal, they’re interested in Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos. The 21-year-old made his senior debut under Lage’s guidance and has gone on to score 14 goals and lay on four assists in 59 appearances for the Primeira Liga giants.

The Sun have also claimed that Wolves are targeting a move for Crystal Palace frontman Christian Benteke, who’s slipped down the pecking order at Selhurst Park and could be available for a cut price with less than 12 months left on his deal.

Meanwhile, reports in France also state that Wissam Ben Yedder, who’s been on the radar of Premier League clubs previously, could become another option for Lage.

Ben Yedder turns 32 later this month, but he boasts a proven goalscoring record with more than 150 club career goals across spells with Monaco, Sevilla and Toulouse.
