Wolves went eighth in the Premier League with a narrow 1-0 win against Sheffield United at Molineux.
Scorers: Sarabia 30′
Wolves started much the stronger, with almost all of the opening 20 minutes of play taking place in the Sheffield United half.
The Blades were resilient, however, and eventually had the best chance of the game. A long throw caused trouble for Wolves leading to Rhian Brewster having two chances at goal. Craig Dawson blocked his first shot before José Sá batted away his second.
The home side grabbed the opening goal on the half-hour mark, Pablo Sarabia flicking a header home from a brilliant Rayan Aït-Nouri cross.
Wolves almost doubled their lead shortly after but Pedro Neto’s curled effort went just over the bar.
Sheffield United’s frustration led to Vinícius Souza pushing Jack Robinson and the two teammates going head to head. After a VAR check, no action was taken but it really highlighted the issues facing Chris Wilder’s side.
Perhaps it was a half-time dressing down, but United came out flying for the second half, making a series of chances but failing to find the equaliser.
United came mightily close to getting that equaliser late on but no one could get a touch onto Robinson’s dangerous long throw.
Wolves held onto leapfrog Newcastle and keep their European hopes alive.
