Wolverhampton Wanderers supporters ‘might as well get excited’ about the recent speculation surrounding Haris Seferovic, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Manager Bruno Lage was seen pictured with the Benfica striker recently, naturally leading to suggestions that he could be arriving at the Midlands outfit this summer.

Seferovic was linked with a move to Wolves last summer before he ended up staying put at the Estádio da Luz but could finally make the switch over the coming months.

The Switzerland international is well known to Lage from their time together at Benfica where they claimed the Primeira Liga title together in 2018/19.

Under Lage’s watchful eye, Seferovic found the back of the net on 27 occasions, setting up a further 10 strikes in 65 appearances across all competitions, and the duo may be keen to reform that fruitful partnership.

Only the bottom three teams in the Premier League scored fewer goals than Wolves last term, and talkSPORT have claimed star forward Raul Jimenez has been made available for transfer.

Whether the interest in Seferovic is genuine or not remains to be seen, but he may be able to provide the spark in the final third that the Molineux outfit were so desperately lacking throughout 2021/22.

What has Jones said about Seferovic?

When asked if the leaked picture was an innocent meeting or whether there was a deeper meaning, Jones revealed he can ‘see it both ways’, although suggested Wolves fans should perhaps get carried away given their dismal end to the season.

He told GiveMeSport: “I see it both ways. I can see why they would defend it and say there’s nothing in it, but if you’re a Wolves fan, then you might as well get excited about it because there hasn’t been much to get excited about over the course of the last six months.”

Would Seferovic be a good signing?

Former Switzerland head coach Ottmar Hitzfeld once described Seferovic as “a full-blooded centre-forward who moves very well,” perfectly summarising the marksman’s qualities.

In 413 senior career games, the 30-year-old has registered 116 goals and 47 assists, turning out for sides such as Fiorentina, Real Sociedad and Eintracht Frankfurt.

However, Seferovic has been a relatively late bloomer, producing his best form for Benfica since arriving nearly five years ago, racking up 102 goal contributions in 188 outings since then.

If Lage is targeting his former player as a back-up to a new, younger, prolific striker, then the Wolves faithful will surely be pleased by this approach, yet doubts remain whether Seferovic has the ability to be the club’s first-choice forward.
