Wolves boss Gary O’Neil says his side were “pretty close” to perfection in their win over Spurs on Saturday.

Joao Gomes put the visitors ahead at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium just before halftime, but Dejan Kulusevski equalised almost immediately after the break.

It was Wolves, though, who found the winner in the 63rd minute as the Brazilian midfielder grabbed his brace to secure a massive victory on the road.

“Disappointing lapse for the goal, similar to the one we conceded in the last minute against Manchester United but that is probably the only negative I can find,” O’Neil told BBC Match of the Day.

“We were close to perfect. I am proud of the group. It is a tough place to come and I think we deserved to win the game.

“The way we got the goal wasn’t how we looked like getting it. We were more than that [just counter-attacking] and when we had the ball we caused them loads of problems and kept missing chances. I was a little bit frustrated that we weren’t more clinical and we kept going and kept threatening. João was really calm and got a good connection on the ball and got us the win.

“It was really important for us to go 1-0 up and then the second one was fantastic. We worked on Pedro getting in behind on the right and then a really good pass for Joao.”

O’Neil became the first manager to win at the ground with different teams since it opened in 2019, while Wolves remain 11th in the Premier League table.

Spurs have slipped out of the top four after Aston Villa beat Fulham 2-1 at Craven Cottage.
