Wolverhampton Wanderers have turned down a £50 million bid from Newcastle United for Jorgen Strand Larsen, according to Express & Star.

Newcastle have set their sights on Strand Larsen as they look to bolster their attack, but Wolves have made it clear that the Norwegian is not for sale, considering him a key player in their squad.

The summer window has been challenging for Newcastle in securing a new striker, with bids for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa also being rejected, and Wolves refusing to sell Larsen complicates matters further.

With the club willing to go as high as £60 million, Newcastle are expected to continue their pursuit of Strand Larsen, given the limited options available as the transfer deadline approaches.

Magpies manager Eddie Howe has expressed frustration with the ongoing situation regarding striker Alexander Isak, who is trying to force a move through to Liverpool.

Isak has not played for Newcastle since their final league game of last season and is currently training on his own.

Howe would be glad to reintegrate Isak if he chooses to play again, but Newcastle remain under pressure to find replacements regardless.

Given his impressive debut season at the Molineux Stadium last time out, where he netted 14 league goals, it is no surprise Newcastle are keen to land Strand Larsen.

Wolves’ ‘not for sale’ stance is hardly a surprise too, as they only just signed Strand Larsen on a permanent deal for Celta Vigo earlier this summer.

Newcastle’s striker search is set to enter a crucial phase with just one week left before the window closes.

After a goalless draw against Aston Villa in their opening fixture, Newcastle will welcome Liverpool to St James’ Park later today for what promises to be a feisty affair.
