Manchester United are expecting a busy few months with INEOS leading the club into their first transfer window since taking control of the sporting structure at Old Trafford.

As ever, many names are being linked with bolstering Erik ten Hag’s squad which is in serious need of some surgery after an appalling season.

Upgrades are required across the park after finishing the season in eighth place – United’s lowest-ever position in the Premier League.

Wolves duo João Gomes and Rayan Aït-Nouri are two of the players rumoured to be attracting interest from the red side of Manchester but the Midlands club are confident of keeping hold of their star players.

According to talkSPORT, Gary O’Neil will be planning for next season with both Gomes and Aït-Nouri as the club are “under no financial pressure” to sell any big names.

The pair could fetch a handy price in the summer market having gained many admirers after impressive individual seasons.

United are desperate to improve their options at left-back having been without Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia for the majority of the campaign.

Gomes’ ability and consistency would be welcomed at Old Trafford who need a solid defensive midfielder after Casemiro’s struggles this season.

The Brazilian has caught the eye in the middle of the park and would no doubt give Ten Hag another string to his bow in a midfield that has looked far too open this year.

The news of Wolves being confident of keeping hold of the pair will serve as a blow to United, who were looking at a possible double raid to fix two problem positions.

With FFP restrictions tightening, it’s much more likely United will start searching for more economical deals with INEOS needing to be smart in the market after a decade of bad spending under the Glazers.

Before then, United and Ten Hag have one huge hurdle left to navigate as they look to salvage something from a dreadful season by winning the FA Cup against Manchester City on Saturday.
