Tottenham Hotspur fell to a second consecutive Premier League defeat as they were beaten 2-1 by Wolverhampton Wanderers in Saturday’s meeting at Molineux Stadium.

Despite missing several regular first-team players, Tottenham started the game on the front foot and opened the scoring after just two minutes.

A cross-field pass from Pape Matar Sarr somehow found its way to Dejan Kulusevski who fed Pedro Porro down the right to square the ball across for Brennan Johnson to tap home from close range and open his Tottenham account.

Spurred by the concession of an early goal, Wolves started to grow into the clash as it progressed with Joao Gomes and Rayan Ait-Nouri both denied by crucial interventions after pulling the trigger.

Wolves’ best moment of the half came in the 33rd minute following a sustained period of attacking intensity as Mario Lemina drew a fine save out of Guglielmo Vicario.

That set the tone for the remainder of the half in which Gary O’Neil’s men continued to rile on the pressure looking to go level before the interval.

In keeping with their strong finish to the opening half, the home side kicked off the second period in the ascendancy and had the first two cracks at goal through Matheus Cunha.

Having withstood pressure for large spells of the second half, Tottenham came close to adding to their advantage two minutes from time through Giovanni Lo Celso who was denied by an excellent save from Sa.

Just as it looked like Spurs were set to come away with a narrow win, Ange Postecoglou’s men conceded a late equaliser to Pablo Sarabia within four minutes of the Spaniard’s introduction.

Given the balance of the game up to that point, Tottenham would have probably been the happier team with a point but the North Londoners would end the game empty-handed as Sarabia turned provider for Mario Lemina to fire home the winner in the final minute of stoppage time.

Saturday’s defeat leaves Spurs second in the Premier League table, a point adrift of Manchester City having played one game more.
