Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg are languishing in 14th position and three points above the bottom three after winning two, drawing two and losing four of their eight league games this season. They picked up their most recent league win on matchday six when they recorded a 2-0 victory over Bochum. Ralph Hasenhüttl followed that result with a 4-2 defeat against Werder Bremen, before they played out a goalless draw with St. Pauli.

While they may be in poor form in the league, Wolfsburg enjoyed success in their midweek cup outing against Borussia Dortmund. The second-round tie looked set to go to penalties until Jonas Wind netted a 117th-minute winner to send his team into the next round. Die Wölfe will now turn their focus back to league action as they go in search of their first home league win of the season. The hosts have taken just one point from their opening four home league games, leaving them with the joint second-worst home record in the top flight.

The hosts are expected to be without Sebastiaan Bornauw, Rogério, Niklas Klinger, Aster Vranckx, Kevin Paredes and Bartosz Białek. Meanwhile, Wimmer will serve the second game of a two-match suspension.

Augsburg

Augsburg are two points above Wolfsburg in 12th place after winning three, drawing one and losing four of their eight matches. The Fuggerstädter have experienced contrasting results between their home and away fixtures. They have collected all 10 of their points from their five home matches, while they have lost each of their three Bundesliga away matches. In fact, Augsburg have now each of their last seven away league games since they beat Wolfsburg on their most recent trip to the Volkswagen Arena in March.

While their away form leaves a lot to be desired, Augsburg will head into Saturday’s fixture in a positive mood after claiming back-to-back home victories. The Fuggerstädter recorded a narrow 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund, before they swept past Schalke in their midweek Pokal tie.  As they turn their focus to Saturday’s league fixture, Augsburg can take confidence from the fact they won both of their Bundesliga matches against Wolfsburg last season.

Team News

The visitors are unable to call upon Ruben Vargas, Fredrik Jensen, Reece Oxford and Mads Pedersen.
