Newcastle United want to sign Brentford striker Yoane Wissa this summer, even though his club does not want him to move to St James’ Park.

According to the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, Wissa’s representatives are in London today to accelerate a deal for the Magpies to sign the DR Congo international.

Newcastle have been trying to get a deal for Wissa over the line, but Brentford have refused to move.

However, with Brentford closing in on signing a replacement, they are more open to allowing the transfer to Newcastle.

Wissa bagged 20 goals and five assists in 35 appearances last term, taking the mantle from Ivan Toney.

Newcastle have been linked with several other strikers, including Nicolas Jackson and Randal Kolo Muani.

Who should Newcastle sign: Jackson or Kolo Muani?

As derided as he is, Jackson would be the better pick for Newcastle thanks to his well-rounded game.

The Senegalese forward misses big chances, but his link-up play, ability under pressure, and drive to get in behind defences make him an absolute gem.

Jackson also has Premier League experience. His ability to keep cracking and relentless pressing means he is the perfect fit for manager Eddie Howe’s style of play.

Kolo Muani is a fine striker and will likely come cheaper, but Jackson’s remarkable upside and superior all-round game cannot go overlooked.

Besides being a young striker, he is also an excellent creator for his teammates.

He formed a productive partnership with Cole Palmer and would do the same with others around him at Newcastle.
