Kicker reports that there is a real possibility that Florian Wirtz will extend his contract with Bayer Leverkusen rather than leave the club in the summer of 2025.

However, according to Kicker, there is no indication that Wirtz is inclined to leave Bayer Leverkusen next summer.

In fact, the German football news outlet suggests that there is a real possibility of the 21-year-old extending his contract for another year until 2028.

Such an extension would allow Leverkusen to keep the youngster in their squad next season without significantly weakening their negotiating position in the event of a transfer in 2026.

Wirtz himself sees Leverkusen as a great place to mature, not only from a sporting perspective, but also mentally, in terms of attitude and as a rising leader.

If he were to move to one of Europe's top clubs for a huge fee, there would be a different kind of pressure that wouldn't necessarily benefit the 21-year-old at this stage.

“A young player needs to be in a team where he can play a lot,” the player's father and agent, Hans-Joachim Wirtz, is quoted as saying by Kicker.

Kicker goes on to write that Wirtz and the club are in good communication, with wishes being formulated and opportunities explored. At the moment, Leverkusen are the only club he's talking to.
