Manchester United are yet to bring in any player for Erik ten Hag this summer, however, they may have already made the shrewdest move of this transfer window.

Dan Ashworth has finally joined the Old Trafford outfit from Newcastle United. The Englishman has built quite the reputation as one of the best sporting directors in football for many reasons, not least for his penchant for spotting and signing top talents.

Considering his impressive work at West Bromwich Albion and Brighton & Hove Albion, the United faithful can expect United to be in the race for quality prospects across the globe.

However, it appears fans might have to wait a while to see Ashworth’s influence, as United have missed out on a “top jewel” of Borussia Mönchengladbach’s academy.

Earlier today, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming that the Red Devils are plotting a move for Winsley Boteli.

Boteli, 17, has emerged as one of the most promising talents in Germany, having caught the attention of multiple suitors after scoring 21 goals in as many games in the U19 Bundesliga West.

It has been claimed that United’s assistant coach Mitchell van der Gaag approached Boteli’s advisor Christopher Mandiangu to understand the young sensation’s situation.

Now, it has emerged that Gladbach have managed to convince the player and his entourage to continue his development in Mönchengladbach.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Boteli is ‘not joining Man United’ as he is set to sign a new deal with the Bundesliga outfit. The young striker is expected to finalise the deal with his current club this week.

Still, Thursday has not been all negative for United fans, as Christopher Vivell has started his stint at Old Trafford as the club’s director of global talent on a temporary basis, as per The Athletic.

The former Chelsea technical director is another highly-admired football mind in Europe, known for spotting stars of tomorrow.

During his time with the Red Bull group, the German was involved in transfer of talents like Erling Haaland, Benjamin Sesko, and Josko Gvardiol.
